Appendix Registers

The Appendix Registers provide a pathway for ponies that meet Highland Pony breed standards but lack full pedigree documentation to be recognised by the Society.

What are the Appendix Registers?

The Appendix Registers exist alongside the main Stud Book to recognise ponies of Highland type that have been inspected and approved but whose full ancestry cannot be verified. This allows quality ponies to contribute to the breed while maintaining the integrity of the main Stud Book.

Eligibility Criteria

Ponies may be eligible for the Appendix Register if they:

  • Meet the Highland Pony breed standard in type and conformation
  • Have been inspected and approved by an authorised inspector
  • Lack complete pedigree documentation required for main Stud Book entry
  • Display the correct breed characteristics and temperament

Inspection Process

1

Contact the Society

Request an inspection by contacting the HPS office. They will arrange for an authorised inspector in your area.

2

Prepare Your Pony

Ensure your pony is well-presented, handled, and available for a thorough assessment of conformation and movement.

3

Inspection

The inspector will assess your pony against breed standards, checking type, conformation, action, and temperament.

4

Application

If approved, complete the Appendix Register application form with all required documentation and fees.

5

Registration

Upon acceptance, your pony will be entered in the Appendix Register and you will receive appropriate documentation.

Breeding from Appendix-Registered Ponies

Offspring from Appendix-registered ponies may, over generations of breeding to fully-registered Highland Ponies, become eligible for entry in the main Stud Book. Contact the Society for specific requirements and grading system details.
