In 1923, a group of dedicated breeders came together to establish the Highland Pony Society, recognising the need to preserve and promote one of Scotland's most treasured native breeds. What began as a small organisation has grown into an international community of passionate Highland Pony enthusiasts.

Through a century of change, the Society has remained steadfast in its mission: to maintain the purity of the breed, support breeders and owners, and ensure that the Highland Pony continues to thrive for future generations.

1923

Society Founded

The Highland Pony Society was established to preserve and promote the Highland Pony breed, maintaining the Stud Book and setting breed standards.

1920s-1940s

Early Years

The Society worked to consolidate breed standards and establish a comprehensive registration system during challenging times including two World Wars.

1950s-1970s

Post-War Growth

Growing interest in native breeds led to increased registrations and the establishment of affiliated shows across the UK.

1980s-2000s

Modern Era

The Society embraced modern technology, established international connections, and saw Highland Ponies exported worldwide.

2023

Centenary Year
