Passports
Government legislation mandates that every pony must have a passport. The Highland Pony Society issues passports for registered Highland Ponies, part-breds, and ponies declared as 'Highland Type'.
Legal Requirement
Trading Standards Officers now attend shows to check passports. You should always take your passport when you travel with your pony.

Microchipping Requirement
All ponies applying for passports must be microchipped and the number recorded on the reverse of the application form. This is a legal requirement for equine identification.

Alternatively, you may copy information from a previously completed equine vaccination identification card.
Duplicate Passports
If your passport has been lost or damaged, you can apply for a duplicate. Please note:
- Your pony must be microchipped before a duplicate can be issued
- Use the dedicated Duplicate Passport Request Form
- If the original passport was made after 1997, no redrawing is required
Highland Type Ponies
Non-members may obtain passports for ponies of "Highland type" without official registration. The Society maintains records for future reference. Contact the office for more information about this option.
